Steer clear

I purchased a used VW 1.6TDI Golf (one of the 'emission issue' affected engines, fixed by software), left a deposit and waited for the car to be ready to be collected. When back home I searched online to make sure the 'emission fix' software was not causing any trouble and with my surprise I found tons of people reporting reliability issues after the update.

I reluctantly decided to cancel the purchase. I drove to VW Bath (2hours round trip) and spoke with a manager who said it would be no problem and just to send an email to the salesman.

The salesman then ignored all my communications for the following 20 days. I phoned and tried to talk to him and he was always not available.

I had to call again and make a complaint with a manager. Shortly after I received an email from the salesman: no greetings, just a "please fill in the attached form and return it to me".

I was then refunded the deposit but the behaviour of the salesman was totally unacceptable. I appreciate I wasted his time but I am not the one
